Poem introduction

This Italian sonnet commemorates the massacre of the Valdencians, a Protestant sect who were massacred by the Duke of Savoy. Their deaths arouse fury in the Protestant world, and this poem is strongly anti-Catholic, polemic, political, theological and a cry for vengeance.
